Frequently Asked Questions
We’re here for YOU at every step of the caregiving journey
WHY HIRE A CONSULTANT?
Very few people set out to be caregivers and yet more and more of us are placed in that role. And while we wouldn’t trade it, it can be a daunting job! The care industry is fraught with challenges and often feels threatening and foreign to caregivers and their loved ones. Skilled nursing care IS indeed a world all its own, with its own language and secrets. Beyond appearance and the friendliness of the admissions staff, most caregivers do not know what to ask to fully assess quality of care.
Additionally, the advisors within the industry often have a financial or other stake in the decision you make about care. (See below for details).
We at The Hatton Group believe that you AND your elderly loved one are worthy of the best care possible. We believe that you should be able to focus on them during stressful times in caregiving and have a trusted advisor at your side.
WHAT IS A CERTIFIED ELDER ADVISOR?
A Certified Elder Advisor is a individual that has taken training provided by an agency and taken a test to obtain the certification. There is no actual centralized certifying agency and CAE’s are paid by nursing homes and other agencies to essentially sell care you.
DOES THE HATTON GROUP USE CERTIFIED ELDER ADVISORS?
We do not use Certified Elder Advisors. Anyone at all may take a course and pay the fee and call themself a Certified Elder Advisor. Most Certified Elder Advisor are not industry experts but are paid placement specialists. Most are paid by Assisted Livings, Nursing Home, Rehabilitation Center, Home Healths and Hospice provider for making referrals to their organizations.
We are retained by you to work exclusively for you. We do not receive payments or inducements of any kind from anyone.
WHAT DO I GET FROM PLACEMENT CONSULTING?
When working with The Hatton Group, you will receive personal and individual care for you and your loved one. After consultation, you will receive an individual analysis and comparison of your identified/targeted placements. This report is designed to provide you a detailed review of the placement options and the past performance of each. The performance metrics are compared and contrasted across all placement options. Care issues are highlighted as it relates to your family member and their risk factors. Most reports are between 25 to 30 pages. It is easy to read and use when touring placements to make your decision.
In short, we provide you everything needed to be confident and competent in your placement decision-making.
WHAT DO I GET IN A PLACEMENT GUIDE?
Once you have made your decision on placement, the Placement Guide is a customized “what to expect and how to navigate” your placement. The first days and week of a loved one’s being in nursing care is a difficult time for everyone - stress, overwhelm and emotions run high. This Placement Guide, curated especially for you, helps you navigate uncharted waters and deal with the inevitable difficult moments that will arise. You will know what to expect and when to expect it. This customized guide will be full of tips and recommendations based upon you and your family member’s needs!
WHAT IS CASE MANAGEMENT?
Some families find themselves in unique situations where short term or long term case management can be helpful. For those who live at a distance, cannot visit often, have their own health challenges or travel often for work, the reality is that some families simply cannot oversee care to the degree they would like. The Hatton Group can stand in the gap - providing varying levels of oversight. We are happy to help.
